9 fresh Belgian hip-hop tracks that kicked in 2019
Missed us? 2019 didn't properly start yet and we already have so many great tracks queued up for you guys. Zwangere Guy dropped another banger, we've got bars from West Flanders as well and even some boom bap! We present you our first Belgian hip-hop selection of the year.
Article and selection by Raf Cyran
NTREK - Heel Veel West-Vlaamse Rappers
Straight out of West Flanders came NTREK with their tune 'A Lot of West Flemish Rappers' and what can we say... With a whopping 14 features, there REALLY are a lot of West Flemish MC's on this one. Some solid boom bap vibes are served and if you're familiar with the accent you might even be able to understand some lines. Just kidding, guys! This track features: Morsdood, MC Equal, Rijmtekkie Spansman, No Exp., Plukketuffer, Rah, Rookwalm, Vorre, Walter Ego, Ja-zon, Samoerai, Redrum, Brihang & Connard!
Zwangere Guy - R.À.F. (Rien à foutre)
Papa ZG treats us with yet another banger. With this track following up the heartbreaking hit single 'Gorik Pt. 1', we're sure we can expect his album to be very diverse. Chuki, who used to intern at Chase, provided Guy with this criminal production and even Miss Angel pops up somewhere in the middle and surprises us with a guest feature. Be sure to turn the volume up before you listen to this bad boy!
Scepto - Blijven Rollen ft. Malcolm x Berry x LoSabeS x Viziez x Jetroo
This shit is smooth! We've got another track with a whole load of features on the list. Scepto teases his debut EP by inviting Malcolm, Berry, LoSabeS, Viziez and Jetroo on the track. Making this tune represent Brussels, Halle, Ghent, Sint-Niklaas, Dendermonde and Deurne (NL) all at the same time. Keep on rolling Scepto, we're looking forward to the EP!
Darrell Cole - Penthouse Dreaming
Darrell you're doing it to us again, this song has been on replay for days now. Cole conquers this jazzy lo-fi beat with an amazingly laid back flow that drips nonchalance. The music video is shot by TWNTGHTVISUALS in New York City, which provides the perfect moody scenery for this song. This really is the full package!
Roedel - Pedigree
Antwerp's hottest rap collective Roedel drops another big one! This time Stef, Mitxelena, Rikky Rozay, Luie Louis & Brakka Briesje pair that hard beat with the biggest confidence. No doubt the crowd's vibe will be lit when they play 'Pedigree' on their next shows! By the way, our photographer Timo Vergauwen took some cool shots during their latest rehearsal, be sure to check our Instagram for that as well.
Deco Comprehension - Play On
We met Deco during one of the great Loop Sessions that are regularly organised in Brussels. When he presented the beat he made, he grabbed the mic and started to spit such a smooth freestyle, turning the vibe of the crowd up a notch. We've been keeping an eye on this American-turned-Belgian since now and then he's finally released this fresh new mixtape. His old school flow on 'Play On' is impeccable but be sure to check out the rest of the tape, there are a lot of different genres on it!
Tweevieracht - Dure Woorden
Always great to feature a new project! Tweevieracht, a spontaneous collab between Lerr and BLNK, just released 'II', their first out of 3 albums. These guys developed their own sound and are keeping a mysterious atmosphere around the project, which is pretty cool. We're curious about the next 2 parts in this trilogy. Can we expect more of this or will we see a story unfold?
Young B - Laydown (Prod. by Jazz Maeson)
It's been about a year ago since we featured Young B's previous single 'Never Change' on our weekly Belgian hip-hop lists. Starting the year off fresh, B just launched his new single 'Laydown' and it's a whole different sound than we're used to hearing from him. At some point it even reminded us of some 2000's RnB, but we like that! The hook is catchy af as well. Nice one, B!
Chaz & Djalu - Eclips (prod. Djalu)
Another project we haven't heard from in a while: Chaz & Djalu. These guys are totally back with their newest single 'Eclips'. The duo from Genk in Litburg are dropping their album, named 'Eclips' as well later this year and we've heard it's been a real DIY project. With Djalu making the beats and Chaz on mixing and mastering duty. Just how we like it!

MVNSI tells his story: “they’ve turned me into a controversial artist”
Fabrice Munsi (27), a.k.a. MVNSI, started to pursue his musical career only a year ago and was recently selected as a Studio Brussel "Nieuwe Lichting" finalist. But it didn't take him long to find out that there's also a less appealing side to chasing the so-called fame. Getting in the spotlight means your every move is watched more closely.
