Chase January Spotify playlist: curated by Black Mamba
The Chase Spotify playlist gets updated every month by a new curator. This month, we chose Black Mamba, DJ, and host of her own radio show on Studio Brussel. Black Mamba’s been taking the scene by storm: she plays at a lot of big clubs and landed gigs at festivals such as Rock Werchter, WeCanDance, Encore Amsterdam, Lokerse Feesten and many more. Not convinced yet? She launched her own party Mamba Nights & Mo Mamba by always inviting a diverse line-up of interesting artists. Hit the follow button to listen to Mamba's favorite tracks of the moment and to stay up to date on next month's playlists!

THERE'S A LOT OF VARIATION IN YOUR PLAYLIST. ARE YOUR SETS AS VARIED?
Black Mamba: "My playlist is indeed as varied as my DJ sets or radio show. On one hand, I just like to switch the vibe from time to time and therefore also in terms of genres. On the other hand, I just listen to many different types of music. When I play longer sets, I take my time to go through all the genres and create a real vibe. I love it."
THE LIST CONTAINS A LOT OF BRITISH GRIME. IS THAT YOUR FAVORITE GENRE?
Black Mamba: "I'm a very big UK fan anyway. More than half of the music I play comes from the UK. I play grime, afro swing, UK funky, garage, etc. I really look up to their music scene, parties, artists, DJs and producers.
In terms of grime, my favorite artists are Dizzee Rascal, Headie One, Capo Lee, Giggs, Skepta, Aitch, Lady Leshurr, Nadia Rose, P Money, Ghetts and Fredo. But my favorite UK rapper of the moment is definitely Stormzy. I already knew that he could make hard hits, but on 'Heavy is the Head', he really proves how good he is musical wise. He currently has beef with grime hero Wiley, but that produces hard diss tracks."
IS THERE A REAL CLUB BANGER IN YOUR PLAYLIST?
Black Mamba: "'Floor Excitement' from The Busy Twist is a real club banger. It has a UK funky vibe combined with super danceable vocals. When I play this in the club, everyone starts dancing wildly, certainly the women. The club bangers of the moment such as 'God Bless' from Hamza and 'GATTI' from Pop Smoke & Travis are also included in the playlist."
WHICH SONG FROM THE PLAYLIST WOULD YOU CHOOSE TO CLOSE YOUR SET WITH?
Black Mamba: "I would probably close with 'W' by Koffee and Gunna, or with 'Dumebi' by Rema. Happy tracks that send you home satisfied!"

TURNING COAL INTO GOLD: A conversation with creatives in Genk
Genk is a city with many faces, literally. The second biggest city of Limburg counts 64.118 inhabitants and about 105 nationalities. Meanwhile, 1 in 4 children is born into a family struggling with poverty and 1 in 5 quits school before getting a secondary diploma. While the youth may experience some difficulties growing up, many turn their experiences into creative energy. We're taking a closer look at some of the local creatives in this first part of our two-part mini-documentary.
