Will the next Blu Samu please stand up? Meet the Chase New Urban award nominees!
It's that time of the year again! The Red Bull Elektropedia awards are back and for the fifth time we're handing out a Chase award. As many artists break through really quick these days, our official jury picked out 10 favorite artists from a long list of 100 up-and-coming rappers for this year's Chase New Urban award. And now it's up to you who deserves your vote.
Last year we gave our Chase award for best upcoming hip-hop artist to Blu Samu. The female rapper from Brussels has since then established her name in the hip-hop scene and even made it to COLORS Berlin. This year, we are eager to see who will be following in Blu Samu her footsteps and become the best new hip-hop artist in the scene. This is our top ten which you can vote for right now.
Absolem is from Liège, is part of 6 O'Clock Gang and got discovered by local radio show Rapaddict 105.4.
Frenetik is a new rapper from Brussels, who raps in French and knows very well how to play with punchlines. He has released three singles so far; 'Trou Noir', 'La matrice' and 'Santa Maria'.
Lil Skid is a rapper from Ghent, who has been working with bigger names such as Chuki Beats, prettyboydro and 95kuston from former Gang The Label. He dropped his first album 'Skyes' last year.
Lyna is a 21-year old artist with Belgian-Morrocan roots. She's influenced by RNB, pop and urban soul, which she reflects into her music. She recently dropped her EP 'Gemini'.
Mitxelena is a part of Roedel, but also came through with his solo project. He surprised everyone with his 'Bitter Maar Zoet' EP this year.
Hasselt rapper MVNSI almost became the winner of De Nieuwe Lichting 2019. He released 5 catchy singles this year and combines Dutch and French language songs.
Antwerp native rapper Rare Akuma is one of the few emo rappers in Belgium. After his album 'Akuma Season' last year and playing at Dour Festival this summer, the rapper recently blessed us with a new EP called 'it'll be okay'.
Representing the 'koekestad', also known as Antwerp, Roedel is a hip-hop collective established by Luie Louis and tusais. The boys served heavy hip-hop on their Hondsdolheid Remixtape this year.

YG Pablo is part of Brussel based collective BSMNT, run by Eddy Ape, and was on stage at Les Ardentes festival this summer. The rapper gave his fans the amazing EP 'Super' in 2019.
