Tinted Souls EP6 w/ African Diplomat: I see music as a journey with infinite beginnings and endings
Trudy Kazangu or Agneskena is no stranger within the Chase team. She recently did an editorial about colorful eye-makeup trends for fall season 2020. With her 'Tinted Souls' project, she shares the stories of individuals who, like her, are tinted by their art. This project is her way of getting in touch with people and each episode embodies the emotions, beauty, sensitivity but above all, the honesty of the bond her subjects have with their passion. Agneskena herself takes care of the technical part and the 'Tinted Souls' of the magic. In this episode, we are re-introduced to selector, radio host and DJ Cédric aka African Diplomat.
CAN YOU DESCRIBE THE VIBE YOU CREATED WITH CÉDRIC DURING THIS EPISODE?
Agneskena: “Cédric had asked me enthusiastically to take pictures for his DJ work as African Diplomat and while taking those, we felt that it was also a perfect moment to create a new episode. I could feel that he was very passionate about Tinted Souls and I think you can truly feel our relaxed vibe through the screen. It all came very naturally and spontaneously. I also really love that we got to shoot the whole thing in his own room, in his space. That makes this episode very visually attractive I believe.
CÉDRIC WAS FEATURED AS A MEMBER OF THE ‘NYMPHOSE’ COLLECTIVE ON EP 2. WHY DID YOU ALSO WANT TO FEATURE HIM SOLO?
Agneskena: “During my shoot with ‘Nymphose’ I felt the strongest connection with Cédric and felt like, through the process we became friends. His style is so unique and I knew that it would look incredible on camera. Cédric studies arts in Brussels and is truly passionate about his music. He is really looking for his roots and, as his name shows, is a true African Diplomat. African music runs through his veins and soul and makes up the basis of his work and who he is. He really plays with these sounds and feelings and does it in such a genuine way that he can totally transform his audience. That’s exactly what I’m trying to reveal and the reason I wanted to work with him.”
FOR CÉDRIC, MUSIC HAS A VERY SPECIAL MEANING. WHAT DOES MUSIC MEAN TO YOU, AS AN ARTIST?
Agneskena: “Music means the world to me. I’ve wanted to do something with music for a long time now but can’t seem to find the time or courage to do so. I might not look like it, but I’m a pretty shy and introverted person and I think of music as something very intimate. I find it difficult sometimes to open up that side of me to other people. Music in general is always there for me. In good and in bad times, music can give me the perspective and strength to power through. It keeps my thoughts and feelings in check and offers me balance in life. Life without music? That would be a disaster.”
