Tinted Souls EP8 with Mounzn: “Creating my art is my meditation”
Agneskena is no stranger within the Chase team. She recently did an editorial about colorful eye-makeup trends for fall season 2020. With her 'Tinted Souls' project, she shares the stories of individuals who, like her, are tinted by their art. This project is her way of getting in touch with people and each episode embodies the emotions, beauty, sensitivity but above all, the honesty of the bond her subjects have with their passion. Agneskena herself takes care of the technical part and the 'Tinted Souls' of the magic. In this episode, we get to know Mounzn, a kind-hearted and talented artist.
WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO FILM AN EPISODE WITH YOUR CLOSE FRIEND MOUNZN?
Agneskena: “I’ve been wanting to do an episode with Mona and if it were up to me it would have been one of the first ones. But I want the episodes I make to be an exchange on both the artists’ side as well as mine, so I made sure to wait for the exact moment she felt ready to share her creative world with me. If you don’t give people that space and time, it will show that they are uncomfortable.
And since Mona is one of my best friends, I really wanted to make sure she could let me know when she was fully ready. Mona is pretty introverted when it comes to her art. She draws and is so talented at it yet she doesn’t see it as a real talent herself. She told me that the drawings just come to her in highs and lows, as she explains in the video. And that is what I absolutely love about her. You feel that her raw talent is there and that, when the time is right, she will create beautiful things.
The moment the shoot happened, I felt that she was ready to share this part of her life with me, she trusted me. I’m so glad I have had the privilege of sharing this with her.
DID YOU LEARN SOMETHING NEW ABOUT MOUNZN THROUGH SHOOTING THIS VIDEO WITH HER?
Agneskena: “I didn’t really learn something new, I saw something new. I had the opportunity to watch her draw. I saw her body language change as he picked up the pens and pencils around her, how she interacted with the paper and how she was so comfortable in her own habitat. This was very special to me, seeing a person I love dearly in this creative flow.
I was surprised because sometimes she can be a bit shy when it comes to camera’s focusing on her, but the shots are absolutely stunning. She holds so much kindness and character in her face and was at ease the whole time. For me, that makes the outcome even better than expected.”
MOUNZN EXPLAINS SHE DRAWS BEST DURING ‘LOWS’ AND ‘HIGHS’. WHAT INSPIRES YOU TO CREATE?
Agneskena: “I think for me it’s very easy and straightforward: people. I get inspired by people. By their stories, their lives, their passion, what they create with hands and soul and how this influences their lives. It greatly impacts how I perceive things and people and it broadens my horizon and mind. It makes me realize time after time that we are all so different, but yet we share a spark inside us that urges us to create anything we want. That inspires me.”
